Using Addict-o-matic for Conversational Coding on Ragan’s PR Daily

PR Daily is “a daily news site that delivers news, advice, and opinions on the public relations, marketing, social media, and media worlds.” I’m using the free service Addict-o-matic to grab the 10 most relevant conversations online about Ragan’s PR Daily and then doing a conversational coding using the following scheme:

  • negative comments = -1
  • neutral comments = 0
  • positive comments = +1

Since I’m publishing on WordPress, I’ve chosen the WordPress results gathered by Addict-o-matic. There were a few hits on search engines such as Bing and Google but these data did not seem very coherent or friendly for my analysis. There was one hit on YouTube directly from the query and though there is an option to see more YouTube-related conversations, following the link gave me hits that were mostly “Social and Digital Media Awards” hosted and/or sponsored by Ragan Communications. Had I chosen to do mostly or all analysis based on YouTube videos, the data would have been heavily biased in favour of PR Daily: I chose to skip that and really focus on WordPress. I invite you to analyze the data for yourself, read the article titles, get a feel for the sentiment in each link and (if you fancy a challenge) assign your own conversational coding to it based on my scheme above which is -1, 0, and +1 for comments you deem negative, neutral, or positive (respectively).

This means that people have positive conversations about PR Daily. My information is a sample of qualitative online research (netnography) based on my analysis of the conversations’ content and then grading the sentiment (emotion) of each as it relates to my Addict-o-matic query.
